Saturn was at opposition last night when it comes closest to Earth in its orbit around the Sun. Its famous rings are opening up again and the delicate pastel colors of its cloud bands make this planet an unforgettable visual treat for all those who view it. Unfortunately, atmospheric seeing conditions were extremely skittish to mediocre at best so fine details on the planet were elusive.
