NGC 474 is a classic shell galaxy interacting with its smaller neighbor NGC 470.
This strikingly unusual galaxy is also listed as ARP 227 in Halton Arp's Catalog
of Peculiar Galaxies. The cause of the shells is not clearly explained or
understood. Sky glow interfered with capturing fainter details of the shells
even after 9 hours of exposure.
