Squid Ink Nebula: NGC 2170 Three small and very faint NGC nebulae in Monoceros piqued my curiosity. They are all rated at magnitude 30 according to The Sky. I decided to attempt imaging them and was surprised that even 15 minute sub exposures at f5.5 revealed very little details! I finally ended up doing a total exposure of over 17 hours divided over five nights to come up with this image through a Borg 77ED and ATK16HR cooled camera. For absence of a name, I call NGC 2170 the “Squid Ink nebula.
