Ring in a Jewel Box Not too far away from Sirius the brightest star in the sky, resides a delicate sprinkling of very fine star dust cataloged as M46. The brightest star in this group (magnitude 6.1) is at the very limit of naked eye visibility even in the darkest sky with the best eyesight. But through a telescope and digital imaging, a small treasure of multi-colored jewel like stars appears with a ring to delight the observer. Planetary nebula NGC 2438 in open cluster M46 was captured through an AP127 at f8 and 1.6 hours worth of exposure time with an ATK16HR camera.
