Mars December 28, 2009

Mars is now 12.4 arc seconds across and continues to grow in size as it approaches closer to Earth. The north polar ice cap looks thick and well bordered while the southern polar ice region is more spread out and hazy. A large cloud floats to the right of Trivium Charontis. Syrtis Major is well defined and the “fangs” of Mare Cimmerium can be made out in this image captured under fair S5/10 seeing and good T4/5 transparency.
