Months of cloudy nights finally cleared to allow an image of Comet C/2013 A1 Siding Spring a day after its closest approach to Mars. The comet is traveling in front of the dense and colorful star fields of Octans near the border of Sagittarius in the central region of the Milky Way. Mars is the brightest object in this image. The field of view in this four minute exposure is 58×77 arc minutes.
