Comet Ison C/2012 S1 approaches closer to Earth and is finally now exhibiting a distinct tail! Ison is presently well between the orbits of Jupiter and Mars, 4.817 AU from the Sun. The comet presents itself in the early evening in the constellation Gemini. The brightest star in this cropped image is GSC 2438:249.
