Lovejoy C2013 R1 is heading closer to perihelion and barely made it through some trees near my observatory just before dawn became too bright. It is now at a distance 0.9 AU from the Sun and 0.49 AU from Earth. A bright emerald glow surrounds its nucleus and its multi-streamer tail extends well outside the 80’ x 121’ field of view in this image. The comet is visible to the naked eyes under dark sky and appears greenish with a star-like nucleus through binoculars.
This 7×30 seconds image was taken through an Astrophysics 5” refractor with a reducer at f/5.3 and a Nikon D7000 at ISO6400.
