Comet Lulin C/2007 N3 is now moving very rapidly at over 3 degrees per day along the ecliptic (the apparent annual path of the Sun in the sky) but in an approximately north-west direction and in the opposite direction of the orbits of all the planets. It is currently still coming closer just 0.45 AU away from Earth and just four days from its closest approach. One AU, or Astronomical Unit, is the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Comet Lulin glows at approximately magnitude 5 and was just barely visible without any optical aid under very clear and fairly dark skies. It is well placed and high above the eastern horizon by 11pm. Through 7×50 binoculars, a faint tail could be discerned.
