HH161 and Vdb1

The constellation Cassiopeia hosts Vdb1, a subtle reflection nebula with the signature blue light of young newly formed stars. It is the first item listed in the van den Bergh Reflection Nebulae Catalog. To the upper left of Vdb1 lies the curiously shaped Herbig Haro object, HH161. HH object are associated with newly born stars and are formed when narrow jets of gas ejected by young stars collide with clouds of gas and dust nearby. Star rays are reflections from bright nearby star, Beta Cassiopeiae.
