Jupiter presently shines so brightly that even in full moon light it can still easily be seen near Aldebaran, the eye of Taurus the Bull. Being just two days from opposition and closest to Earth it appears largest at 48.5 arc seconds and presents a magnificent visual treat even through small telescopes. Disturbance in the South Equatorial Belt is dramatic as the churning Great Red Spot storm progresses eastward (to the left). “Red Jr” and another distinct red dot are to the lower right of the Great Red Spot.
