Mars January 22 and 23, 2010

Mars is now a week away from closest approach to Earth and has grown to 14 arc seconds in these images taken on the successive nights of January 22 and 23, 2010. A long haze forms a diagonal band below the prominent northern polar cap with smaller hazy regions to the west, south, and eastern parts of the planet in the January 22 image. Seeing was a poor 3/10 to 4/10 when these images were taken.
