Nova Delphinus

Tonight finally afforded clear sky and my first view of Nova Delphinus! It was discovered 15 days ago by Koichi Itagaki and reached magnitude 4.5 peak brightness on August 16. The nova is slowly fading and is presently around magnitude 6.4. The bright star to the upper right of the nova is magnitude 8.02 SAO 88610. Nova Delphinus was easily spotted through my 60mm finder scope. The star was originally a much fainter magnitude 17 star that violently interacted with it near by white dwarf companion star.
